CycLOUvia

CycLOUvia, the popular event showcasing alternative transportation, is returning to Frankfort Avenue for the fifth time on Sunday, June 24. Frankfort Avenue from Pope Street to Stilz Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from 2-6 p.m. Police will facilitate a motor crossing at Ewing Avenue. Many businesses along the corridor will be open and engaging the street with specials for the event. CycLOUvia is designed to encourage more communities to close streets to cars and open them to people. The return to Frankfort Avenue marks the thirteenth CycLOUvia event, with previous events being held on Bardstown Road, West Broadway, and Three Points (Germantown, Schnitzelburg and Shelby Park). Commercial establishments with frontage along the Frankfort Avenue corridor are encouraged to open their businesses during event hours and engage participants to create an atmosphere that is uniquely Louisville.

Easter Parade

Mayor Greg Fischer to Lead Louisville’s Only Easter Parade

(Louisville, KY) Things will be hopping on Frankfort Avenue Saturday, March 31 for the 26th annual Frankfort Avenue Business Association (FABA) Easter Parade. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer will serve as grand marshal for one of Louisville’s oldest Easter traditions. The celebration features not only an exciting march down Frankfort, but also creative contests for the whole family.

The parade begins rolling around 11:30 a.m. in front of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 2822 Frankfort Avenue. Hundreds will travel down the historic thoroughfare all the way to Pope Street bringing free candy and Easter cheer to thousands of children lining the route.

Parade Contest

The day will be full of color and character with homemade floats and antique cars and trucks, as well as parade entries from the Shriners, Hwang’s Martial Arts, the Talking Police Car, the Mounted Sheriff’s Posse, and many more. Oh, and the Easter Bunny, too! Judges will determine the winners of the Good Ears awards for the most creative floats and participants.

Easter Bonnet Contest

But the fun can’t be contained solely to the parade route. To top off the day, FABA will hold the first “Top It Off” bonnet contest. Judges will award prizes in the 12-and-under category as well as for the best traditional, most Derby-ready, and most outrageous Easter bonnets.  Winners in their respective categories will take home unique prizes from local Frankfort Avenue merchants. Things kick off at 1:30 p.m., following the parade, at Frankfort Avenue and Pope Streets.

Kids' hat making table in front of the library before the parade from 10-11am, the kids can walk in the parade and be in the contest at the end of it.
